The Birth of Womb Ish
Christine Eley is the founder and CEO of Womb Intensive Systematic Holistic Care, a birth services company offering educational workshops and classes for expecting parents, wellness services for women, and certification courses for birth educators.
Through this work, Womb Ish is committed to empowering mothers and families by teaching them how to advocate for themselves during labor & birth; providing important information on labor positions, women's rights during birth, breastfeeding techniques and postpartum recovery; making space for the critical roles that husbands/partners play both during pregnancy & postpartum healing; and ensuring that all women can birth confidently.
Womb Ish was founded in 2019 after Mrs. Eley gave birth to her third son. During that time, she had to fiercely advocate for herself when healthcare professionals continued to instill doubt in her ability to give birth naturally. Because of that experience, she founded the company to make sure other women were equipped with the knowledge to give birth confidently too. Soon after, she became a certified doula, birth educator and lactation counselor.
As CEO, Mrs. Eley is responsible for aiding her team as they serve during births, educating and certifying other doulas, creating labor, delivery, breastfeeding and postpartum education curriculum, leading classes/workshops and other administrative responsibilities.
To date, Womb Ish doulas have assisted in over 100 births and touched the lives of many family members in the Philadelphia region and beyond. The company has held 450 workshops and classes (in-person and virtual) to educate families on labor/birthing techniques.
Mrs. Eley is dedicated to assisting all those who need doula services; the work that Womb Ish provides is positively impacting birth outcomes, particularly for Black and Brown women and their families.
To date, Mrs. Eley has been featured in Philadelphia’s 6ABC, Billy Penn, and WHYY News.
